Solipsism- Do you know what it means?
First it might help if we take a slight digression into the functions and failings of philosophy.
Philosophy is not obviously a science, despite the top qualification most scientists achieve being a Ph.D. Suggesting that philosophy may be regarded as a science would be considered by many as more heinous a crime than admitting you were a solipsist.
Then there is the problem that we as individuals are (at least) part of the world we exist in, thus there is the possibility that we may be unable to separate our objectivity from that which we observe. This is important because the standard view of science, generally accepted by the majority, is that the scientists are objectively independent from their studies, and can confirm that by presenting their findings in such a way that others can reproduce their results.
Hmmmm...
In order to pursue an understanding of solipsism I think we need to consider:-
The relationship between science and philosophy.
